About Amanda Koth

I believe that students, parents and teachers can work together for the greatest success of the student in every area of life. I believe that rigorous instruction can be adapted to all levels of learning and can be engaging whether online, in person, with a teacher or as independent work. I believe teachers can connect their human side to their professional presence in order to prepare students to be citizens, not mere consumers. I believe teachers deserve support, critique and constructive feedback from their leaders. I believe every child can succeed. I believe every teacher can grow. I believe education is more than a system.I thrive when I can teach and mentor. I first earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (2010) and a Master’s in Counseling (2012). In recent years, I have continued my education not only through independent study and professional development but also through courses with Valley City State University and Boston College where I had the privilege of working to complete my M.Ed. (2023) in Global Perspectives on Teaching, Curriculum and Learning Environments, conducting action research on the instruction of self-advocacy to elementary students in an online setting. I can not remember a time in my life that I was not a teacher: even as a child. Whether teaching in a classroom, teaching classes online, supporting fellow educators, leading trainings for peers, or interacting with customers in non-education jobs, I thrive when I can connect with people.I take pride in my ability to build quality relationships with both my students and their families. I have extensive training and practice using guided math and reading; I differentiate instruction based on student needs and constantly monitor progress to inform my teaching. I am confident in the Google Suite as well as Microsoft, Apple Apps, Zoom, and various online tools.Organization, data, customer service and clear communication I consider strengths. Having worked in customer service since I was fourteen years old, I learned early how to communicate professionally with people from various backgrounds and deescalate emotional customers. Moving into leadership roles, I gained experiences such as scheduling, hiring, completing daily reports and making decisions that impact the entire organization. I enjoy organizing information and understanding data in order to benefit the organization. I especially enjoy being able to share those same skills with my peers.I adapted quickly to remote teaching and found it to be a context that suits my strengths and experience.

  • Alamosa Online School
    K-6 Online Teacher Lead
Alamosa Online School Jul 2020 - Jun 2022
    Alamosa, Colorado, United States
Beginning summer of 2020, I had the privilege to be part of a small team within the Alamosa School District as we began the district’s new completely online school. Throughout the 2020-2021 school year, our team of 6 educators supported anywhere from 440 to 600 students in grades K-12.As the K-5 Lead Teacher and 4th-5th Grade Teacher, I supported my two K-5 teammates, led Gifted and Talented initiatives, curated and facilitated high quality instruction and assessment, built relationships with families of my 60-95 students and much more. What I loved about this role is that I was able to focus on supplementing the core curricula (housed in online LMS) with lessons on critical thinking and social and emotional learning. For the 2021-2022 school year I continued to support Alamosa Online School elementary with the addition of 6th graders. It was a great privilege to help build this new school and craft an equitable, district-run virtual school. I learned how to creatively adapt education to our changing world in order to better prepare students for their future. New leadership in the district in 2022 made the decision to change the online program, discontinuing my role and, ultimately, the online elementary program.
