Amanda McKenzie is an award winning and Emmy nominated broadcast journalist who aims to report stories that inform and inspire.As the primary court and crime reporter at News 13, she covered some of the most talked about court cases, like the FAMU band members on trial for the death of one of their own in a hazing ritual and the murder trial for a man accused of killing state witnesses. She digs deep to get answers about environmental concerns from beach debris, dying lakes and sinking homes. Amanda follows up with ongoing investigations and maintains strong relationships within the community, which enables her to enterprise unique and creative content.One of the most challenging days of her career was on June 12, 2016 - the day of the Orlando terrorist attack on the Pulse nightclub where 49 innocent people were killed and dozens more injured. She received an Emmy nomination for her reporting on the awful events that unfolded that day. While in Central Florida, she covered a variety of topics, from theme parks, economics, politics, environmental concerns and human interest stories from members of the community. She earned a Florida Associated Press Broadcasters Award for a special assignment that delved into the seven-year struggle to build a performing arts center. While she was born and raised a Gator in the Sunshine State, she has moved to three other states as a broadcast journalist. Prior to her move back to Central Florida, she reported in Greensboro, North Carolina for Time Warner Cable News, where she was recognized as one of the top reporters in the state by The Associated Press. While in Greensboro, she provided complete and continuous coverage of the John Edwards campaign finance trial from the federal courthouse.
