Paralegal, Voting Rights Project
CurrentDuties:• Prepare, review, file, and organize litigation documents such as briefs, motions, deposition summaries, discovery requests and responses, and correspondence with co-counsel• Manage and coordinate intake database, case files, attorneys’ correspondence files, and summary of the Voting Rights Project litigation docket• Collect, analyze, and organize legal, factual, social science and other research for use in litigation• Act as liaison among various internal departments as well as with co-counsel and partner organizations• Demonstrate a commitment to diversity within the office using a personal approach that values all individuals and respects differences in regards to race, ethnicity, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability and socio-economic circumstanceAccomplishments:• Served as Lead Paralegal on the U.S. Supreme Court case Allen v. Milligan (2023) striking down Alabama's congressional maps for racial gerrymandering under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act • Collaborated with a coalition of 50+ civil rights organizations to release a progress report evaluating the Biden administration’s implementation of Executive Order 14019 expanding voter registration at federal agencies• Assisted our team in achieving 28 legal victories in 21 states and Puerto Rico safeguarding the right to vote by mail in 2020• Served as Lead Paralegal on the U.S. Supreme Court case Trump v. New York (2020) challenging the Trump administration's exclusion of undocumented immigrants from congressional apportionment • Engaged in state advocacy work to mail voter registration applications to 2.7 million low-income and disabled voters in Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, North Carolina and Virginia• Assisted in editing the ACLU's Report to Congress in Support of H.R. 4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019
