I find my greatest professional joy in collaborating to improve outcomes for students with disabilities. What began as an interest in supporting students with autism in a private school turned into an insatiable appetite to learn more about the field of behavior analysis and put research-based tools in the hands of the public school system. I have worked in myriad settings and viewed the challenges facing stakeholders from various vantage points. In the collaborative classroom, I learned to balance my role between student advocate and compassionate teaching partner. In the self-contained classroom, I learned to train Instructional Assistants and create a culture where achieving more is always possible. By seeking first to understand, and then to be understood, I have mended relationships with families that were previously damaged by negative experiences. As a leader in my school division, I have created organized and functional systems to help teams thrive. It is my desire to consistently increase my scope of understanding, in alignment with my insatiable appetite to learn. My involvement with groups like the Virginia Association of Behavior Analysis (VABA) and the Virginia Public School Behavior Analysts Network (VAPSBAN) enables me to seek answers not only through research, but through the experience of my peers. Through relationships, assessment, programming, data-collection, analysis, and coming back to the drawing board as many times as needed, the field of behavior analysis empowers us to continually make the world a better place for all.
