Hello! My name is Amanda Torrini and I am a co-founder/Licensed Clinic Social Worker (LCSW) with The Oak Center for DBT & Counseling Services, LLC! My background with mental health has grown out of both personal and professional experiences. I earned my BS in Psychology from Truman State University in 2014, and my MSW from the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Social Work in 2018. I have spent the past several years working in a variety of settings including community mental healthcare, non-governmental organizations, and youth development programs. My roles within these systems have included providing individual and group psychotherapy, supervision, case management, advocacy, and furthering program development. This work has allowed me to provide services to a variety of populations including youth and families, adults, refugees and immigrants, people who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, those experiencing homelessness, individuals and families from low-income backgrounds, and people in both rural and urban settings. In recent years, I have developed a passion and specialization in providing comprehensive DBT for people experiencing emotion dysregulation, interpersonal relationship difficulties, and urges to self-harm and/or suicide. One of the things I love most about DBT treatment is helping clients find balance between learning self-acceptance skills and skills for change. My goal is to help create a therapeutic environment where clients will be accepted as they are, while also coaching them through the process of “stretching" themselves to grow and change in ways that are effective and meaningful. Everyone deserves the opportunity to create a life that is worth living, whatever that may look like to them.For fun and rest, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our cats, spending time with family and friends, cooking, traveling, going on the occasional hike, and taking long, leisurely evenings to binge-watch our favorite tv shows (or re-watch The Lord of the Rings trilogy for the umpteenth time - extended edition). I also ride/train/compete in the sport of Three-Day Eventing with my horse, Snaps.
