In a month we had engaging sessions with over 40 classrooms! • June 2020 - Interviewed for the York Catholic District School Board Career Speaker Series • May 2020 - Speaker for online event "Don't Pan(dem)ic! • As a research associate, I helped to manage ongoing research projects and collaborations in the lab. I was actively responsible for mentoring four graduate students, as well as numerous undergraduate students, and met with them on a regular basis to advise on experimental design, data interpretation, manuscript preparation and more. I was also involved in the writing and editing of project proposals, grants and research papers. • I managed a team project with the goal of generating depletion mutants for every C. albicans gene in the genome. In addition to helping to generate a functional pipeline for creating mutants, I was involved in constructing strains, training and supervising new members of the team, and performing all of the organizational and data management requirements. I also created and maintained a data management system to organize all of the relevant strain information.

• I helped to launch a series of monthly career development workshops for the Molecular Genetics department that aim to educate trainees about career possibilities and provide opportunities for networking.• I have executed over ten workshops ranging in topics from careers in academia, industry, business, and government, that were attended by 50-200 trainees each. I have also played an advisory role, helping other students to plan and run subsequent workshops.• I recruited more than thirty career professionals as panelists, utilizing and expanding my network and fostering relationships with alumni in varied careers. • Our team was successful in securing funding from the Genetics Society of America's Trainee-Organized Symposia program in order to improve and expand the workshops. • I also assist the Molecular Genetics Department in the organization of other career development initiatives, including four Alumni Career Development Symposia.

• I worked under the supervision of Dr. Leah Cowen to study the mechanisms of fungal pathogenesis and drug resistance of the opportunistic fungal pathogen, Candida albicans.• My research resulted in two first author research publications and two first author reviews. I have also had the pleasure to work collaboratively with other colleagues on their projects, which has resulted in four publications. • I have crafted grant applications that were successful in securing over $170,000 of research funding.• I utilized time management and multi-tasking skills to train and mentor three undergraduate summer students and two rotation students while still continuing to advance my research forward.• I have communicated my research through oral and poster presentations at four international and many local conferences.
• I was a teaching assistant for an online Introduction to Medical Microbiology course (MGY277), three times that the course was run. • I developed course content, implemented effective assessments, and facilitated discussion and answered students' questions on the discussion board.
• I conducted research on the protein interactions of phosphatases and their involvement in the mitotic cell cycle in the lab of Dr. Anne-Claude Gingras. • I performed affinity-purification and mass spectrometry (AP-MS) on human phosphatases to identify novel substrates, in order to help elucidate their function. • I demonstrated oral and written communication skills by presenting research in two Institute poster presentations. • I acquired skills include tissue culture techniques, cloning, transfections, immunoprecipitations and mass spectrometry.
Dr. Lori Burrows' Lab, Biochemistry, Mcmaster
• I completed a 9 unit biochemistry senior thesis under the supervision of Dr. Lori Burrows. • I independently worked to characterize the mechanism of Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm stimulation by a kinase inhibitor.• I acquired technical skills include aseptic technique, biofilm assays, extracting nucleotides for quantification with mass spectrometry and running Western blots to test for changes in phosphorylation levels of proteins
• Independently operated and maintained a Quattro Ultima triple quadrupole electrospray mass spectrometer. • Prepared and analyzed external and internal customers’ samples using single and tandem mass spectrometry. • Successfully optimized and developed HPLC methods to effectively separate compounds for detection with mass spectrometry and purification
