Obesity and Type II Diabetes

Investigated the role of ER stress in type II diabetes using in vivo and in vitro systems.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow at McGill university under the supervision of Dr. Vassilios Papadopoulos, I studied the role of Translocator Protein 18 kDa, in Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Utilizing various Molecular and Cellular techniques, my goal was to dissect signaling pathways involved in BPH. Additionally, I continued to supervise junior PhD candidates and had 5 invited oral presentations to discuss my work with scientific peers.

I conducted My PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology under the supervision of Dr. Vassilios Papadopoulos. My thesis work titled “Regulation of Translocator Protein 18-kDa (TSPO) Gene Expression through a Protein Kinase C Epsilon Signal Transduction Pathway” translated into 4 peer-reviewed publications, multiple conference-abstracts and invited oral presentations. I studied various topics of molecular and cellular biology such as transcription regulation, epigenetic regulators, signal transduction (MAPK & PKC), cancer biology and Adipogenesis as well as employing transgenic mice. Additionally I helped set up new labs and train junior PhD candidates.

As an RA, I functioned independently as well as a part of a team to promote a sense of community in the dorm and throughout the residences by actively assisting and encouragingresidents to plan and participate in various Residence Life programs. It was part of my responsibility to be available to residents in my dorm as well as being available to the entire student population when on duty. I had to insure the enforcement and adherence to all Residence rules and regulations as well as insuring the safety of the residence a long with the RA team and college security department.This position encompasses individuals who were capable of functioning independently as well as a part of a team, possessing empathetic and fair characters along with excellent leadership, communication and listening skills.
