This summer I picked up another position at Puccini’s through becoming a server! I have expanded my customer services skills, improved my time-management, and perfected the art of conflict resolution. I also completed the training for, and now hold a liquor license in the state of Indiana.

This summer I had the opportunity to work at a summer program through Fortune Academy, a school for kids with language-based learning differences. I was one of 5 counselor and oversaw around 20 kids daily. Our activities focused on fun, as well as fundamentals. Everything we did during camp helped the kids in specific ways including improving their fine motor skills, their emotional self-regulation skills, their communication skills, and much more. Some of our activities included relay races where the students had to balance a ping pong ball on a tennis racket, building mazes, painting, trying out different sports, scavenger hunts, as well as a going on multiple field trips. This was a unique opportunity for me since the school setting and kids with learning differences are exactly what I am pursuing with my degree in psychology with hopes to become a school psychologist. I was forced to be flexible and manage time well since some activities took a longer or shorter amount of time than we had planned spending on the students interest levels, attention span, and the difficulty of the activity itself. I will continue with this role in the summers to come!
