About Amar Mayyah

A motivated, adaptable, determined, committed and responsible scientist/researcher (PhD) in Cytogenetics, Molecular Biology and Molecular Genetics. I have been involved in tissue culture techniques, Cytogenetics, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry-immunocytochemistry, EVs/exosome and exosomal nucleic acid and protein molecule research since 2009 (when I was a PhD student). In which I published “Possible role of Exosomes Containing RNA in mediating Non-Targeted Effect of Ionizing Radiation” paper that considered the first scientific paper explained the effects of exosome cargo molecules (RNA and protein molecules) on non-irradiated neighbouring cells following radiotherapy in vitro. The article has been cited more than 130 times. I have also developed a method of exosome extraction from organs and blood plasma, which has been profoundly utilised in my jobs. Immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry have been intensively used to image and detect specific proteins associated with inflammatory responses following radiotherapy or exosomes treatment. Extraction of exosome proteins and nucleic acids is a well-established method utilised in our lab. One of my MSc students also carried out a drug-delivery project, “Exosomes from ICCM-mediated DNA damage in human epithelial prostate cancer cells”. I also developed, optimised, and used exosome-induced migration assay and HPA binding protein in a PhD study in metastatic breast cancer cells. Taken together, I have strong experience in protein, DNA and RNA extractions, PCR techniques, western blotting and immunohistochemistry methods. I also utilised ELISA Immunoassay during my PhD study (in 2010) to detect some inflammatory proteins such as TNF-α and TGF-β and some senescence proteins.Additionally, I used cheap nanoparticles combined with radiotherapy as a promising treatment for breast cancer. I also developed some techniques of telomerase activity measurement and 3D tissue culture using colon cancer cells. I chaired a “Non-coding RNA and radiation responses” linked to exosomes session in ICRR 2019 in Manchester. Furthermore, I supervised 3 MSc students who successfully passed the exam. Data Analysis is one of my strong points. I have a solid background and knowledge of using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access. I also have a good understanding and knowledge of choosing the correct statistical test for data and the reason behind selecting the test.
