About Amarachi Onyima
I have over 10 years of experience in the mental health field working in a wide range of social services settings. I've provided mental health counseling, vocational counseling, and clinical case management to adults and families coping with the negative psychological impacts of homelessness, substance abuse, incarceration, unemployment, family trauma, relationship issues, financial insecurity, and physical and mental disabilities. My approach to therapy is holistic, person-centered, and strengths-based. I draw from a variety of evidence-based practices such as CBT, solution-focused, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed, and behavioral techniques to create a tailored approach for each of my clients. I teach my clients how to use their innate skills and tools to challenge and change their harmful thoughts and behaviors, improve their emotional regulation, and develop the essential coping strategies needed to target their current problems. My laid-back, patient, and non-judgmental counseling style creates a therapeutic space where my clients feel safe, supported, and heard. I believe that my clients are the experts in their own lives and work collaboratively with them to clarify their goals for treatment.As a life-long learner, I strive to ensure the services I provide to my clients are cutting edge and ethically sound. I honor the humility and courage it takes to decide to seek therapy and welcome the opportunity to walk with my clients on their journey towards healing and empowerment.
