This position involved researching water usage per land use type as a means for the Calgary Regional Partnership and on global compensation for wildlife depredation events on livestock. This information gathered on water usage was to be used as a means assessing how future development within the CRP is going to affect the amount of water needed to supply new developments. As no new licences are being issued for water withdrawals on the Bow River it is important for the CRP to determine how much water is currently being used, and where they could change land use types to create more supply for future developments. For the wildlife depredation compensation project, the goal was to determine the different types of compensations programs that are used globally and how effective they are at preventing livestock producers from killing predators, which are often threatened or endangered species. This information was to be used to build a new compensation system for ranchers in southern Alberta.
