● Chat with LGBTQ youth in crisis with a focus on building rapport, discerning visitors’ need, ensuring visitors’ safety and offering unconditional empathy and positive regard. ● Engage visitors in creating a self-care plan that encourages safe coping mechanisms. ● Recognize when visitors may need services out of the project’s scope and compassionately connect them to other resources and support. ● Assess visitors’ suicide risk level and de-escalate youth in crisis. ● Over 40 hours of training in crisis intervention and suicide prevention services.

The Berkeley Free Clinic works to empower individuals and communities by providing accessible, client-centered health services and information.● Provided drop-in counseling to individuals and couples, as well as long-term clients (by request); all sessions were an hour long, and based on a Rogerian model of non-judgmental, client-centered, talk-based counseling.● Supported clinic and members through on-going training and monthly-check-ins.● Coordinated mentor-trainee pairings during training of incoming cohort of counselors.
