DaKarai's Destiny is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness on Necrotizing Fasciitis, a flesh-eating bacteria that claimed the leg of young, brilliant athlete, DaKarai Moore II. Since the start of the nonprofit in August of 2016, I have coordinated local news features, leading to national exposure. I have coordinated three fundraisers, cultivated visits from athletes on the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, and the 2016 Paralympics. In planning the fundraisers, I acquired sponsors such as PepsiCo, Little Caesars, Jimmy John's, Hostess Brand Snacks, and legendary, local brand Better Made Snack Foods. I created a GoFundMe campaign that raised over $5000, an amount that is still rising. I also created a Facebook Campaign, Care 4 Karai, that reached over 65,000 in its first week. The Powerful Women with dedication has grown to host six sold-out events including creatively planned luncheons and workshops. The Powerful Women is also home to a signature conference entitled The Powerful Women’s Weekend, which gathers attendees from across the United States and creates an atmosphere perfect for fostering unity.For the 2016 event, I served as Sponsorship Coordinator. In this position, I acquired sponsorships from O.P.I. Nail Lacquer, Candlessentials, LePenn Designs, as well as sponsorships from other locally based companies. In addition to acquiring sponsorships, I was also responsible for distributing the donations to the guests and speakers of the weekend event. Also, arranged press hour for interviews between press, event speakers and attendees. Served as sponsorship coordinator, handling placement of sponsored goods obtained from national and local based companies. Collaborated with other event team members on event time management of speakers and planned activities.
