• Currently directs the coordination of Pre-College Outreach Programs in the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid including supervision of the Junior Bulldog Program (middle school college readiness and access program serving 2500 students across the state of NC), primary investigator on the state of NC Gear Up grant awarded to UNC Asheville (serving middle school students, as well as high school seniors, to give designated districts access to campus resources and prepare for the college application process), supervises the direction of the ¡Vamos! program at UNC Asheville (a high school dropout prevention and college access program for Latinx students in Asheville City and Buncombe County School Districts), and continues as the Coordinator and primary investigator of the federal Gear Up grant (see below) as UNC Asheville’s campus liaison, in partnership with Appalachian State University, Western Carolina University, Wilkes Community College and eleven public school districts in 11 Western North Carolina. Includes the management of annual budget funds in excess of 150k+ including both state and grant funding. Serves on the university Diversity Action Council and the University Planning Council.

 Serves as UNC Asheville’s campus liaison and primary investigator, in partnership with Appalachian State University’s Federal GEAR UP grant, to Alleghany, Ashe, Burke, Clay, Graham, Madison, Rutherford, Swain, Watauga, Wilkes and Yancey County school districts. Utilizes campus-wide resources, departments, faculty and the like to support public school students through three distinct transitions: 1) college readiness; 2) college enrollment; and 3) college achievement. Guided by the mission and strategic goals of the university, as well as extensive knowledge of middle and high school systems within Western North Carolina, makes connections across a variety of programs and services in order to provide the best outreach for middle and high school aged youth. Able to cross organizational (internal and external) boundaries with an eye toward collaboration and offering university services in a mutually beneficial and reciprocal way that connect teachers, students and parents to campus resources. Responsible for all deliverables in the contractual scope of work including: meeting federal 1:1 grant requirements; creating, producing and assessing professional development for area educators, in conjuction with NCDPI and school district human resource officers using the ‘Science Education for New Civic Engagements & Responsibilities” (SENCER) model; developing residential summer enrichment opportunities in the STEM areas for public school students; and work closely with the Office of Admissions in the formation and construction of all-day campus immersions for middle and high school students. Orients parents, students and teachers to GEAR UP and raises awareness of benefits of post-secondary education. Manages data collection for ASU and UNCA, as necessary for evaluation and fiscal auditing processes.

Worked to recruit and retain smart, creative educators into North Carolina public schools through activities including: open house, academic and career fairs, admitted student days, Teacher Cadet outreach and facilitation, marketing and departmental materials design, newsletter development, website design and update, database and longitudinal data tracking development, community college outreach and guest lecturing, orientation programming for traditional and transfer students, student ambassador training, alumni and post-baccalaureate marketing, with a particular emphasis on minority and first-generation college-bound students. Managed 40k+ budget fund, processes and purchasing. Serves on Diversity Committee, University School Teacher Education Committee (university-wide steering committee for USTEP), as well as faculty search committees, student intern training and management, grant writing, course redesign, campus guest contracts and event planning for, general public relations and media press packets, textbook orders, and AVID HigherEd exploratory committee. Organized, attended and fiscally supported community outreach through the Student NC Association of Educators UNCA chapter, Me2We conference on civil engagement, Fiesta Latina, Goombay Festival, Walk for Autism, Itching for the Cure, Communities in Schools, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), and Asheville Latin Americans for Advancement Society. Coordinated the UNC Asheville Department of Education's formal partnerships, professional development and memorandum of understandings with five public school districts in the surrounding region. Administered college access grant through the North Carolina Appalachian Collaborative for Higher Education (NCACHE) in partnership with Appalachian State University and Western Carolina University to identify, assess, and disseminate practices that improve college access and student success throughout the Appalachian region.
