Highway InternMichael Baker International Nov 2016 - Jun 2017Ontario, CaliforniaAs an intern, I had the opportunity to learn about various types of roadway project that were in accordance to Caltrans Standards and Specifications. I created various CADD exhibits and plan sets for clients in the Inland Empire. I also had the opportunity to learn about Public Outreach and Marketing through this Internship. -
Transit & Rail InternHdr Mar 2016 - Nov 2016Riverside, CaI performed numerous tasks using Microstation & INROADS to create exhibits for the Redlands Passenger Rail Project. I utilized INROADS to model multiple templates throughout a proposed rail corridor. Typical sections were generated from the surface(s). I also modified existing plans to be updated with current SCRRA and CalTrans Standards. The plans were in accordance to boarding exhibits, platforms, and DMU locomotives. -
Engineering Intern - Traffic Engineering DivisionCity Of Corona Jun 2013 - Mar 2016Corona, CaManipulated AutoCAD to create signing and striping work orders, tree trim work orders, and traffic control plans. The traffic control plans were completed in accordance to the MUTCD 2014 and Watch Manual. I was typically given topographic files from other agencies and it was my responsibility to "clean-up" the file and reference it into the traffic control file and create the traffic control plan. I designed a schematic to reconstruct a major city corridor to create a "downtown environment" and improve traffic circulation. This schematic included roadway improvements, traffic signals, parking stalls, and landscape work. The project corridor spanned about 3 miles.Field work is another area that I was involved with. I would go out into the field and deploy CMS Trailers throughout the city and program them accordingly. I performed speed surveys in the field and compiled the raw data back in the office. When residents complained of speeding on local roads, I went out to the field and deployed tube counters that were programmed to detect vehicles speeds and used that information for various studies and/ or warrants. I also went out to verify that work orders are completed correctly by the contractor.I designed and drafted a traffic signal plan at the intersection of Rimpau Ave and Old Temescal Rd. This was a 5 phase protected permissive signal that was located near a local High School. I also designed and drafted a traffic signal at the intersection of Serfas Club Drive and Rancho Corona Road. This signal had to be done in accordance to the 91 Project and with the County of Riverside. As far as modeling work, I worked with Synchro in the Traffic Management Center and would plan the timing of multiple signals along a corridor so that they all were in synchronization with each other.
