Phd StudentKing'S College London Oct 2012 - Feb 2016London, United KingdomThesis title: The role of Nox2 oxidase during the cardiac infiltration of T-cells in a model of hypertensionChronic hypertension related to increased activation of the renin-angiotensin system causes cardiac remodelling, which can progress to heart failure. Previous studies indicate that NADPH oxidase-2 (Nox2) activation is involved in angiotensin II (AngII)-induced hypertension and cardiovascular remodelling. Nox2 is expressed in multiple cell types including cardiac myocytes, endothelial cells and inflammatory cells. The aim of my thesis was to investigate the role of T-cell Nox2 in the pathophysiology of AngII-induced cardiovascular remodelling. This involved using both a global Nox2KO model and a novel CD4+ T-cell specific Nox2KO model to determine the role of endogenous Nox2 during the cardiac infiltration of T-cells during hypertension. My project resulted in some very interesting findings that were further investigated and published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation in 2018.Awarded the Elsevier Outstanding PhD prize 2016 for exceptional doctoral work. -
