My current responsibilities at UF Health include performing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) with the Illumina NextSeq 550Dx system from various sample types within the department of pathology. DNA extractions from formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissues samples from tumor biopsies as well as microbial cultures followed by polymerase chain reactions (PCR) are among the processes I perform prior to prepping the samples for NGS. NGS clinical samples are run for variant detection in a 500 gene cancer panel for solid tumors and myeloid cancers. I run the daily operations of the Molecular Pathology NGS Lab while maintaining CLIA certification and CAP compliance.

My responsibilities as an MLS III at the FL DOH included receiving and processing clinical samples for growth and identification of various organisms as well as further downstream processing which included but was not limited to: DNA extractions, polymerase chain reactions (PCR), virulence gene detection, whole genome sequencing (WGS) with the Illumina MiSeq, data analysis of WGS data, subtyping of isolates from WGS data, and reporting results of various molecular assays while working in collaboration with the CDC and state epidemiologists.
