Research Assistant in the Disease Ecology Across Tropical Habitats (DEATH) Lab at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute on Barro Colorado Island, Panama. Advised by Erin R. Spear. Responsibilities include: - Analyzing fungal-driven internal decay within living trees in a rainforest habitat using sonic tomography and ImageJ for quantification.- Evaluating tree health and any external symptoms of disease, logging data in ArcGIS.- Conducting extensive fieldwork and navigating the 50 ha ForestGEO plot.- Collecting and lyophilizing fungal samples for subsequent DNA analysis. - Developing and employing a protocol for fungal voucher specimen collection for deposit in herbarium.- Identifying fungi through morphological characterization.

Assisted the class of Environmental Science (ENST 150) by transporting students to field sites, answering questions about class concepts, and advising students about other opportunities at and beyond Lawrence.

Continued research in the Biogeochemistry Lab at LU with efforts focused on statistical analysis and next-gen sequencing data analysis from two ongoing projects: 1) the additive effects on tomato fruit productivity and soil microbiome of tomato plants and marigolds grown with and without basil, and 2) characterizing the rhizosphere microbial community of alfalfa intercropped with orchardgrass.

Supported all aspects of the residential community and division of Student Life. Held a leadership role focusing on personal wellness, interpersonal relationships, and community building within residence halls. Mentored first-year students to establish a sense of belonging on campus and connect them to various resources and campus communities to facilitate the transition to campus life. Fostered an inclusive and diverse environment through intentional event themes and personal check-ins with residents. Served as a first responder to policy and behavior incidents.Held this role for 3 consecutive school years.

Worked in the Lawrence University Biogeochemistry lab under Professor Relena Ribbons studying the rhizosphere microbiome of hydroponically-grown microgreens. Plants were grown within the lab and a procedure for harvesting rhizospheric biofilm was developed to increase levels of extractable rhizospheric microbe DNA from hydroponic roots.Assisted in additional projects such as soil sampling in a cedar forest, pitfall trapping, and rhizosphere microbiome and soil differences across polyculture agricultural plots.Poster was presented at the 2022 American Geophysical Union conference and an oral presentation was given at the 2022 Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium conference.

Researched at the Hatfield Marine Science Center of Oregon State University and South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve to analyze porewater sulfide concentrations of estuarine sediments within eelgrass habitat. Utilized spectrophotometry and the methylene blue method. Assisted with collecting other seagrass bed metrics such as seed bank collection, staging of seagrass spadices, and density measurements. Mentored by Ryan Mueller, Fiona Tomas Nash, and Lara Breitkreutz.
