I interned with the Historic Preservation Training Center, partnered with the National Park Service, to preserve the brick wall of Yorktown National Cemetery in Virginia. Took out old, crumbling mortar and properly replaced it with a better version while ensuring that structural integrity is maintained, a process known as repointing. As this cemetery is surrounded by Yorktown Battlefield and the final resting place of Union Civil War soldiers, it is an important part of the cultural landscape and enjoyed by many. Additionally, I have aided in finding and documenting culverts along the Colonial Parkway for future preservation work. I worked on the Victory Monument in Yorktown, as well as the Tercentenary Monument in Jamestown by cleaning it, applying D/2, and repointing mortar gaps.

As an elected officer within the Student’s Union, it was my responsibility to look after international students to make sure they adjusted well to a radically different culture and environment. I introduced them to home students and set up interpersonal dialogues to help them network. I added value to their service by providing counsel, fielding and answering questions, and guiding them on cultural trips and events hosted by the International Office.
