My philosophy of teaching revolves around creating a family environment in my classroom. I know this changes every aspect of my teaching. For 180 days I truly go from a mother of two, to a mother of twenty. They aren’t just students that I teach how to add, subtract, read, and write. I do not forget about them when they walk out of my room at 2:30 each day. They are my children from the second they walk into my room in August and I absolutely treat them as if they are mine. No matter what, I one hundred percent know that my students enter and leave my classroom daily knowing that they are safe, loved, and have someone on their side. They know that no matter what they may face when they get off that school bus at home, they get to come back to school the next day, I will be there with a smile and a set of open arms to welcome them back into our classroom. This feeling of love, safety, and a sense of family leads to an environment that produces students who are happy, peaceful, and ready to learn. It is as much a gift to me as an educator as it is to my students.
