Primary job duties:+ Conducted routine research procedures on mice specimens, including drug administration via oral gavage, cardiac bleeds, and organ harvests.+ Gathered clinical data using DNA and DCF Assays, PCR tests, and Mass Spectrometry.+ Nurtured, replicated, and performed experimental drug tests on several strains of prostate cancer cells.+ Mentored and trained 2 new students. My research assistance involved developing a drug that may inhibit androgen receptors (AR), which express Spermidine/Spermine N'-Acetyl Transferase (SSAT) and JunD in cancerous human prostate tissue. The uptake of SSAT and JunD aids in the metastasis of prostate cancer by producing reactive oxygen species (ROS) in prostate cancer cells, creating oxidative damage in DNA. In this research study, I analyzed samples of tumors taken from mice with prostate cancer. Using mass spectrometry, I calculated the amount of drug remaining in the tumor post-24 hour and post-48 hour drug administration.I also took part in a research study on prostate cancer. We took urine and serum samples from patients with prostate cancer (who haven't received chemo) and tested them for certain biomarkers indicative of cancer. The goal of this study was to find a less invasive, more efficient way of determining the status and severity of a patient's prostate cancer. -
