During the summer, I participated in a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program through the Molecular Engineering Materials Center (MEM-C) at the University of Washington. I conducted research on lithium batteries over the course of several months. I presented a research paper on improving commercially used electrolytes as well as a research poster I created on the affects of different fabrication paraments on cathodes. I was exposed to several different laboratory skills, including analytical techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). I was also exposed to Python, which I used as a tool for analyzing the data into figures that were then studied. This experience taught me how to approach research in a professional academic setting as well as how to convey my own findings to those interested.
