As an Associate Professor of Literacy Methods at Tennessee Tech University, I bring over 20 years of dedicated experience to literacy education. My commitment to enhancing educational opportunities has led me to direct summer programming for children in my local community since 2017, where I collaborate with families and community organizations to provide enriching experiences that support elementary-aged learners during the critical summer months.I am proud to be a co-founder of Literacy Unleashed, a dynamic team of three women dedicated to empowering educators and transforming literacy practices. Through this initiative, we strive to foster innovative approaches that elevate literacy instruction and engage diverse learners.My leadership roles within the education community include serving as the immediate past chair and Advisory Board Member for the Literacy Association of Tennessee. Additionally, I am the Membership Chair for the Upper Cumberland Literacy Association and a member of the Lead in Literacy Network in Tennessee, contributing to the advancement of literacy initiatives across the state.My work has been recognized through various awards, including the 2018 Literacy Association of Tennessee's Literacy Professor of the Year, the Hoyte Snow Literacy Leadership Award in 2021, and the International Literacy Association’s Celebrate Literacy Award for the Elinor Ross CDF Freedom School in 2023. As the Executive Director of the Elinor Ross CDF Freedom School, I empower young learners to cultivate their literacy skills, develop a love for reading, and establish a strong foundation for academic success. Witnessing the transformative power of literacy in children's lives drives my passion for education and community engagement.I am continually seeking opportunities to collaborate and innovate in literacy education.
