About Amber Steele

I'm a highly creative self-starter that has thrived in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with limited resources. I am a strategic, customer-centric product manager who obsesses over how people think, their problems and how to solve them. My background in marketing and my current career in product management allows me to not only think about what other people’s challenges and wants are, but to actually build solutions that customers need. My marketing experience has given me a keen eye for identifying customer needs. This has led to success in product management where I build the solutions that delight customers. When I was in marketing, I worked mostly in advertising sales where I learned first hand about different customers' motivations and needs and how a variety of companies sought to address those needs. I internalized those learnings and used them to connect customers with the right products. When I joined Amazon, I realized that communicating the benefits were not enough to satisfy me, I also wanted to build the products. Amazon has provided this opportunity to me and as a product manager, I am experienced in creating long-term visions supported by industry research, customer insights and data analysis that are broken down into executable multi-stage roadmaps. I have developed close working relationships with engineering teams, providing direction and the customer insight needed to build increasingly more complex products that customers love. I excel in trade off assessment to and management of cross functional teams across diverse areas including leadership, engineering, user experience, marketing, legal and financial groups.I thrive in creative environments that also require technical skill-building and this is reflected in my hobbies as well. I believe that hobbies flex creative muscles, build confidence and teach us how to fail and learn new skills to recover from failure. This belief means I’m willing to try nearly new craft at least once. I have been crocheting for 20 years, and I have taught myself to knit and sew over the past three years. I have always had a strong passion for gaming, with city building, survival games and fantasy role playing games topping my list of frequently played genres. I love reading fiction and believe that reading fiction is important for product managers and marketers to indulge in as they teach empathy, a required skill for anyone who is creating products for others.
