Artist FellowNew American Economy Oct 2018 - Feb 2022Northwest ArkansasThe Ozark Story Project was created as an extension of “Looking For America”, an initiative exploring immigration and American identity in dynamic communities across the United States through public art, storytelling, and dialogue. From December 2019 thru March 2020 Arkansas-based artist Amber Perrodin, in partnership with DC-based social sculptor Philippa Hughes of CuriosityConnects.us, curated an art exhibit entitled “Looking For America: Northwest Arkansas.” Thirteen Northwest Arkansas artists were invited to answer the question “What does it mean to be American in your community?”The exhibition travelled to Rogers, Springdale, Fayetteville, and Bentonville. With each of the 13 artists offering a different perspective, voice and medium, the results were stunning. Visitors to each exhibition were invited to have their photo taken, record their voices, contribute to a poem written by Noelia Cerna, and meet the artists. The “Ozark Story Project” is continuing the conversation by working to archive recorded stories, poetry, recipes, and photographs contributed by people that have a relationship to the Ozarks. This project is curious about the intersection of immigrant and traditional Ozark folklore and how the two intersect in today’s world to create modern day folklore. -
Founder, Creative DirectorThe Little Craft Show Dec 2011 - Nov 2020Northwest ArkanassThe Little Craft Show was intended to be a playful, weekend project one rainy weekend in December 2011 and it’s growth, excitement and the cheerful faces were contagious. I warmly embraced this “little” project and immediately began planning the next one. From features in Martha Stewart magazine, Buzzfeed, The New York Times, Better Homes & Gardens, and even a juicy email from Pinterest that featured The Little Craft Show as an influential account to follow (next to Michael’s craft stores and The Home Depot) - there was no turning back! The Little Craft Show has exploded into the most rewarding and energetic full time job I've ever had. I saw The Little Craft Show as an amazing opportunity to put my fine arts degree and all of my wildest business dreams into one massive experimental event and it worked. From collaborative art installations with the University of Arkansas sculpture department to after-parties at everyone's favorite local pub, and selling out of VIP tickets, we have partnered with every dream local business, artist, maker, and restaurant that we could think of and it’s been a JOYFUL ride.
