A native "California Girl," Amber Sakai was raised in Ojai, California with a love of nature enriched by rugged surroundings and an eco-conscious family lifestyle. By the age of seventeen, the modeling world had recruited the six-foot tall beauty, marking the beginning of a seven-year career in the fashion industry, working in print, television and music videos across the globe. In 1995, Sakai returned to her true passion - pattern making and design - and expanded her natural ability working as a freelance stylist.Sakai's first designs appeared in 1998 in a line of intimate apparel - Brighdie Lingerie - sold at luxury boutiques including Browns (London), Fred Segal (Los Angeles), Ballroom (Japan) and Steven Alan (New York). The success of the line and a passion for surfing prompted a new business for Sakai - Four Girls - where she co-designed surfing apparel specifically for women. The Four Girls collection included groundbreaking surf wear designs - rash guards with built-in bras, feminine t-back wetsuits, and other surf clothing with protective padding, all carried at top retail locations. Four Girls' innovative work with neoprene, wetsuit design and the utilitarian patent they were awarded for apparel featuring hip and ribcage protection, garnered much industry attention. The brand was regularly featured in Shape, Sports Illustrated, Surfing Girl, Entrepreneur, and highlighted on CNN for Companies on the Rise. In 2002, Sakai made the decision to dissolve the Four Girls fashion label in order to focus on her new family and philanthropic interests.
