The past couple of years have been a tumultuous ride for me. I learned from each sharp turn and evolved through each road that I had consciously taken. And, each day I became more self-aware than the day before.I believe that the more self-aware a person is the better he or she will be at HR BP, HR Transformation, Org. Development, etc. roles. Why? Self-aware people are conscious and curious enough to find out reasons behind their emotions and actions (actions that are in turn influenced by emotions) hence they also can have close-to-accurate insights on other people's emotions and actions. We cannot separate people from emotions and emotions from people. Thus it becomes imperative to know employee's emotional state in every walk of employee's life cycle so that we can handle situations with the sensitivity needed – this, in turn, will help strengthen employee's ties with the company. In one of the studies of HBR, they found that (and I quote) - “…over the past decade, we have found that emotional culture influences employee satisfaction, burnout, teamwork, and even hard measures such as financial performance and absenteeism.” Thus, I feel self-awareness is the most basic and very vital element one should have to do justice to such roles.I am on a continuous quest to find out more about the human psyche and this, along with self-awareness has, in turn, helped me develop high emotional intelligence. I believe EI, along with my analytical mindset and eye for identifying problems and strong urge to solving them makes me a unique value addition.
