About Amanda Black
Amanda Black is a Post-doctoral Fellow in the Sport Injury Prevention Research Centre and the Integrated Concussion Research Program at the University of Calgary specializing in the area of sport-related concussion and injury prevention. She is also a CATA Certified Athletic Therapist who has previously worked within a wide variety of sports including hockey, volleyball, marathons, rugby, soccer, field hockey and netball. Prior to starting her post-doctoral program, she completed her specialized Honours BSc in Kinesiology and Health Science in 2009 and MSc in 2012 at York University as well as a PhD with a specialization in Sport Medicine at the University of Calgary in 2017. Amanda’s previous research has focused on the epidemiology of concussion in varsity athletics, injury prevention, sport-related concussion assessment, baseline screening, policy changes in youth ice hockey, and the role of concussion education in changing concussion management behaviours.Amanda’s research interests include: • Sport-related concussion management and education • Injury prevention• Evidence-based athletic therapy practices and protocols • Evidence-based sports medicine • Public health
