• I am responsible for the design of mechanical structures to facilitate the conversion of mine haul trucks to a dual fuel system• I was responsible for the audit of the high pressure fuel system against the requirements of AS2739 and the QLD Petroleum & Gas regulations• I am responsible for initial scoping of compliance requirements for new designs• I continue to use my experience performing FEA for certification to assist colleagues with modelling and analysing mechanical structures. As a mechanical engineer with a passion for innovation, my goal is to use my expertise to drive progress within the industry. By leveraging my technical skills and creative problem-solving abilities, I aim to contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies that enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability in mining operations.

May 2022 - Present

Mechanical Engineer

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

• I was responsible for performing structural analysis using ANSYS Mechanical or FEMAP, for the purposes of certification by CPE/RPEQ. This includes preliminary hand calculations, geometry preparation in Spaceclaim, meshing, simulation set up, post processing, results analysis, and reporting• I interpreted and applied a range of Australian standards for both designing and assessing equipment, in particular: AS1170, AS4100, AS3990, AS1664.1, AS4991, AS4968• Based on FEA results I provided design solutions to clients when their equipment was not passing the relevant load cases• Create detailed 3D models and assemblies in Solidworks, create drawings for component manufacture and for assembly of new equipment• Prepare quotes, for both analysis and certification project as well as design, modelling and drafting projects• Communication with clientsIn this role I have honed my skills and knowledge of FEA, particularly the best practices for analysis of sheet metal and welded structures. I have become proficient in using ANSYS Mechanical to perform static structural analysis of both shell and solid models and have a good understanding of the limitations of each and the geometry preparation required to produce efficient and accurate models. Recently I have started using FEMAP. Despite the new software I was able to quickly achieve similar productivity as I have with ANSYS.Working with an experienced CPE/RPEQ I have developed a good understanding of the engineering certification process and the application of standards. Consulting has exposed me to a broad range of engineering projects forcing me to be adaptive with my processes and to put my full skillset to use.

Mechanical Engineer

Dandenong South, Victoria, Australia

• I designed assemblies and bracketry to install electric powertrains into truck chassis, work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver functional vehicles• Create detailed 3D models and assemblies in Solidworks, create drawings for component manufacture and for assembly of vehicles, creating bills of materials• Perform FEA in Solidworks Simulation to ensure components meet strength requirements• I initiated the implementation of solidworks PDM to replace the error prone file management structure and worked with my colleagues to deliver a functional workflow within the limitations of our software package.• I created simulations to predict performance of the vehicles and electric powertrain, including gradeability and range estimates based off standard drive cycles and validated with data collected from vehicle testing• Liaise with customers to gather requirementsIn this role I have been exposed to the challenges of getting a product from prototype to volume productions in an industry that is experiencing rapid technological developments.

The team achieved 3rd place EV at FSAE-Australasia, Highest competition placing for the team in 10 years. We brought the lightest EV the team has ever produced, a 32% reduction in mass of vehicle with no mechanical failures.Head of Suspension - 2016I designed a novel suspension system, requiring kinematic and structural analysis. Assisted in the production of composite moulds and components.Aerodynamics Team – 2015Designed a front wing, performing CFD analysis in ANSYS Fluent.Formula SAE has given me many skills I believe I will be applying throughout my career. Being able to design a component or system, or produce a drawing for manufacture are skills I have been able to practice and refine. However, I believe the most important skills I have had to develop are time management and the ability to work as part of a team.
