Mechanical Engineer
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
• I was responsible for performing structural analysis using ANSYS Mechanical or FEMAP, for the purposes of certification by CPE/RPEQ. This includes preliminary hand calculations, geometry preparation in Spaceclaim, meshing, simulation set up, post processing, results analysis, and reporting• I interpreted and applied a range of Australian standards for both designing and assessing equipment, in particular: AS1170, AS4100, AS3990, AS1664.1, AS4991, AS4968• Based on FEA results I provided design solutions to clients when their equipment was not passing the relevant load cases• Create detailed 3D models and assemblies in Solidworks, create drawings for component manufacture and for assembly of new equipment• Prepare quotes, for both analysis and certification project as well as design, modelling and drafting projects• Communication with clientsIn this role I have honed my skills and knowledge of FEA, particularly the best practices for analysis of sheet metal and welded structures. I have become proficient in using ANSYS Mechanical to perform static structural analysis of both shell and solid models and have a good understanding of the limitations of each and the geometry preparation required to produce efficient and accurate models. Recently I have started using FEMAP. Despite the new software I was able to quickly achieve similar productivity as I have with ANSYS.Working with an experienced CPE/RPEQ I have developed a good understanding of the engineering certification process and the application of standards. Consulting has exposed me to a broad range of engineering projects forcing me to be adaptive with my processes and to put my full skillset to use.
