Reporting to the Senior Director of Architecture, my role as Enterprise Architect encompasses the technical oversight of Enterprise initiatives in the Loblaw group of Companies. Embarking on our Digital Transformation journey, I am accountable to deliver solutions empowering both our internal and external customers with a seamless UX to systems and channels. I achieve this through collaboration with other EA's and our vendor partners, ensuring strategic alignment across the landscape. As a technical authority, I have the responsibility to provide strategic recommendations in the forms of roadmaps and standards for the organization and guide project teams in their implementation for Platform Compute, Enterprise Storage, Network Technologies, Enterprise Monitoring, Messaging & Collaboration, Desktop & Remote Access Technologies. Also, I provide expertise and oversight over infrastructure development activities during the project delivery lifecycle, ensuring that internal and external teams conform to the architecture and to the enterprise architecture standards. I am responsible to ensure the day to day technical governance for Loblaw is followed by both internal and external teams.
For over 2 years now I have been incredibly busy doing the job of two people at Foresters. This has been an amazing challenge for me, as it is my first official managerial position as Service Delivery Manager, on top of which I have had to fulfill the responsibilities of Solutions Infrastructure Architect. As such I have been given free reign to design and implement solutions as I see fit. For example, I have been tasked with leading the development and renewal of technology infrastructures, but I have gone the extra mile and insisted on seizing every opportunity for reuse through an emphasis on redundancy reduction. I have focused on utilizing TOGAF principles as much as possible, especially in the development, propagation and adoption of Enterprise Architecture Governance. I have really enjoyed working with service providers to ensure all new projects go ahead as planned, and my experience working in different industries has allowed me to ensure seamless integration with a range of business requirements. Equally interesting has been the development of new processes and procedures which put stakeholders center stage. There have been many achievements to be proud of: overall, delivering 54 projects in a year and taking care of the lion’s share of the negotiations myself. It is this kind of thought leadership which I have relished over the past two years, and now I am experienced enough I feel ready to move away from all the button pushing and make the next step to the next level of service and technology delivery.

I worked for 9 years at CGI Group, the first 7 years of which I was building up huge experience as a Senior Technical Consultant accountable for the research and design of major infrastructure changes on behalf of multiple clients. Working for an outsourcer allowed me to experience different verticals such as retail, finance and distribution gaining valuable business knowledge. The most major project was probably the rollout of Altiris CMS to a total of 7000 nodes, but other achievements such as architecture design for a major corporate inventory of over 10,000 multi-client servers using BMC also stand out. In 2011 I was promoted to Client Architect. All the usual knowledge and skills were still essential, the main difference was that an enormous step up in communication skills was required – something which I found a lot easier than I had anticipated. I really enjoyed working with all the different systems analysts, engineers and architects who all contributed to every project. I found I have an aptitude for pulling all the strands together and developing really watertight infrastructure plans on behalf of very demanding clients. As always in this industry, it was critical to stay ahead of the curve in terms of emerging technologies, and I think I managed this very well as an effective thought leader, delivering cost reductions, downtime reductions and boosts to client confidence and satisfaction every step of the way.

Technical Support for a not for profit organization during my spare time lending a hand to a great cause!

While working onsite my major duties included researching, designing and implementing major infrastructure changes as part of owning the technology roadmap. Working with the individual businessand operations units to devise a technology currency plan for Cisco refresh, design and implementation as well as platforms hosting the financial business applications. My tenure was a short 2 years but was very profitable in delivering high impact projects to key stakeholders.
OSF was my first 'real' IT job and as such I was tasked with managing a 17 campus network location with a team of 4 people. This included all aspects of Tier 1 Data Center Operations including over 50 Wintel Servers, MS Exchange Servers, a centralized backup solution, and Cisco layer 2/3 infrastructure. This position allowed me to grow professionally in both Operations and Solution/Architecture disciplines. I was also tasked with ensuring the 'C' level staff were personally attending to with extra care and support. This allowed me to keep my ear to the floor in addressing the concerns strategically to move the business forward.
