Ameera Ali is a Research Analyst on the Strategic Policy team at the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), where she focuses on advancing Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA Plus). Her work aims to promote equity within the workplace. At the CSA, she played a pivotal role in orchestrating the 2023 United Nations/Canada Space4Women Expert Meeting. Ameera also has extensive experience in international space policy, as she collaborated with the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) to develop the first-ever Gender Mainstreaming Toolkit for the space sector, as well as the Space4Women Outcome Report. In addition to her work in policy, Ameera serves as Co-Chair of the CSA’s Young Professional Network, fostering opportunities for young professionals to connect, mentor, and grow within the space industry and the broader public sector. Ameera is an award-winning journalist whose articles have been published in iPolitics, Capital Current, and featured in the Toronto Star. Ameera holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Carleton University, where she also pursued minors in Human Rights and Indigenous Studies. She also earned a Master’s degree in International Affairs, specializing in International Development Policy, from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) at Carleton University. Before joining the public sector, Ameera worked at Falconers LLP, a human rights law firm; Nisa Homes Women’s Shelter, a transitional home that supports women escaping violence, abuse, and homelessness; and Developing World Connections, a charitable organization dedicated to alleviating poverty globally through community development. As the Outreach Coordinator at Nisa Homes, Ameera founded "Hoops for Homes," a women’s basketball tournament that raises money for new transitional homes across the country. As a Team Leader for Developing World Connections in Costa Rica, Ameera worked alongside local community leaders in Costa Rica to support sustainable development projects. During her graduate studies, Ameera served as President of the NPSIA Students’ Association, where she represented and advocated for the student body. In her undergraduate years, she led and facilitated the inaugural BIPOC Affinity Group, creating a safe space for racialized students to connect and engage with one another. Ameera’s leadership roles have instilled in her a deep sense of responsibility, compassion, and empathy. These experiences have cultivated her strong interpersonal skills, instilled discipline, and reinforced a diligent work ethic.
