Was invited to return to The Bee’s breaking and metro teams to cover Sacramento County politics with a focus on county homelessness. Attended County Supervisor meetings and traveled to political events. Selected to write a biweekly COVID-19 update, which appeared in five newspapers across the state of California. Wrote over 50 articles, including eight.

Worked on the breaking news team, writing three to four stories per day. Selected to lead the paper’s wildfire coverage, writing a 1,000-word wildfire roundup each morning. Responded to the scenes of fires and police incidents; interviewed residents in disaster zones. Wrote long-form articles about wildfires, smoke impacts, COVID-19 policy and more.

Researched topical issues and synthesized findings in letters to constituents on behalf of the Senator. Attended Congressional hearings and briefings and summarized in staff memos. Mobilized over 200 volunteers to re-elect Representative Cindy Axne by just over 6000 votes in a highly-competitive frontline race. Led all volunteer efforts in densely-populated Des Moines suburbs and consistently met targeted weekly goals for volunteer recruitment. Ran 8+ phone banks per week, leading to hundreds of thousands of calls to voters over.
