About Amelia Farber

I am currently a PhD (DPhil) candidate at the University of Oxford in the Department of Education and am a member of St. Antony's College, Oxford. My research interests include education research in the Galapagos and other protected areas, younger years learning, environmental education, environmental literacy, ecological knowledge, place attachment in relation to environmental ethics and behaviors, and collaboration between informal and formal learning experiences. My doctoral research, under the supervision of Dr. Ann Childs and Dr. Steve Puttick, is entitled: "Constructing Local Ecological Knowledge: How Children in the Galápagos Islands Learn About their Environment." In my non-academic life, I love to teach and engage in programs and roles that encourage learning. I work within the Department of Education at Oxford University as Student Liaison Coordinator, a role that gives me the chance to serve students and staff by creating programs of educational/informational seminars, conferences, and exchanges. I am also a faculty member at St. Clare's Oxford, a private educational institution where I teach some amazing undergraduate students visiting from the US to Oxford. I teach education courses, including Comparative and International Education and Multiculturalism and Philosophical Foundations of Education. In the corporate space, I am an enablement, operations, project management, partnerships, and event marketing professional with 8+ years of industry experience which I channel into corporate and academic roles to design and invigorate training and alliance programs, plan and execute project management for team enablement, operations, and platform migrations, excel in teaching positions, and lead event management projects. I am passionate about empowering employees, partners, students, and team members to excel through knowledge gain. I love being able to pivot and solve challenges and execute tasks swiftly by creating accurate and efficient project plans and by modeling clear and frequent communication.In my free time, I am a free-lance food photographer, food stylist, food blogger, recipe developer, and gluten free baker for my online blog and social handle, Sisters Sans Gluten, which I created with my sister in 2018. When I'm not working on my PhD research, baking up a storm, teaching, or tackling organizational projects, I continue my vocal performance interest through learning European and Latin American art songs, and enjoy traveling and spending time in green spaces with people I love!
