I have served as an advocate and administrative leader in the Special Education department at Encinal Elementary School, offering primary oversight of an overall caseload ~60 students with a variety of academic, behavioral, and social/emotional needs including two moderate-severe Learning Center classrooms and two mild-moderate Resource classrooms. Responsibilities have included: conducting comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations (using PSW qualification criteria for SLD); coordinating and serving as LEA representative for all annual IEP meetings, leading and participating in SST/504 Plan meetings; performing urgent risk/threat assessments; serving on dyslexia, dispro, MTSS, leadership, and SEL committees; consulting with teachers, parents, and administrators on class-wide and individually-based positive behavior intervention programs; continuing to annually train over 70 employees in Handle With Care crisis management techniques; and continuing to represent SMCOE for PENT (Positive Environments, Network of Trainers).

Provided individual and group counseling to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP), collaboratively consulted with teachers and parents regarding students’ behavior and academic functioning, participated in and facilitated IEP/SST meetings, administered a wide variety of assessment measures, planned classroom interventions for specific behavior difficulties, contributed to manifestation determination decisions, and wrote legally defensible Initial/Triennial psychoeducational reports.

Individual psychotherapy with six at-risk male and female students in grades 6-8, co-facilitated a 10-week girl’s social skills group. Training included weekly individual and group supervision and workshops covering Medi-Cal documentation, formulating behavior plans, diagnosis, play therapy, and group therapy.
