Working with metal halide perovskites (specifically lead and tin perovskites, and 1.5 MHPs that make ribbons instead of planes) and examining their exciton properties using electron absorption. Our research group is interested in the perovskites because they interact strongly with light in solar cells and LEDs, and are cheap and easy to make. When we use electroabsorption, we apply an electric field to a semiconductor which changes the absorption spectrum, the bandgap energy, and thus the photon energy of an absorption edge.

Analyzing data using python to get X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) spectra.In our research group we collected data from the Soleil Synchrotron and shone x-rays on different sized samples of magnetite (Fe_3O_4). The data collected gave a X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and after normalizing that data, we get our XMCD data which will be used to find the peaks where the magnetic energy is located. We can then set the energy of the X-rays to those peaks to get magnetic contrast to collect magnetic scattering data.

Students come into the Math Lab with questions from their classes (trigonometry, college math, calculus, multivariable calculus, calculus of several variables, linear algebra, and proofs). I help them understand concepts that are difficult for them to understand, help other tutors in explaining concepts, and also teach class test reviews.
