Hi there, I'm Amelia, a sociology graduate leaping into the world of local government through rec and sport. My passion lies with the community, and my work at the Christchurch City Council has shown me first-hand the power of local unity. I want to live in a Christchurch where you give your neighbours a lift to the rugby, get to know the family sitting next to you at the cricket, and cheer for someone else's kid at school athletics. Through running events at Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub and Hagley Oval, I'm helping to create these opportunities for connection. When I began in this industry, I worried my degree may not prove useful. I loved the BA, not because it was a pathway to a career, but because it was so holistic (my studies took me across sociology, philosophy, politics, psychology, and computer science). The real value of my degree was that I emerged seeing the world differently, equipped with lenses from a diverse set of faculties and a penchant for questioning that which society blindly accepts. I look forward to one day hone these skills through postgrad.
