I led the development and execution of grantmaking strategies aligned with Komen’s mission, overseeing the full grant lifecycle for the 2015-2016 fiscal year, from solicitation to impact assessment. The purpose of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) National Multicultural Outreach Initiative is to help address the disparities in health information that exist among racial and ethnic minority populations, including African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and American Indians and Alaska Natives. I served as working group member and minority women’s health advisor for NIAMS.

The Public Health Sciences Institute (PHSI) is committed to supporting and training students to diversify the public health workforce by producing culturally competent, well-trained minority students. As faculty, I taught workshops, held office hours, and participated in research and evaluations.

As director, I led a multi-year public-private partnership with 15 organizations and state government in Georgia to address the health and wellness of women attending minority-serving institutions, developed and implemented gender-based health advocacy initiatives focused on movement and power-building, and designed and led culturally and linguistically appropriate wellness projects focused on health care utilization among college women. I implemented health care provider training in hospitals, clinics, and local health departments to reduce disparities in health care, and coached senior executives and leaders of minority-serving institutions to build sustainable partnerships with philanthropic organizations to support programs.
