Dr. Amelia Parnell is an accomplished higher education executive and an internationally recognized thought leader regarding current issues and emerging trends in the field. She is a passionate advocate for higher education as a tool for personal advancement and impact, and she seeks opportunities to partner with organizations and individuals who share her sincere commitment to centering students' needs.In July 2024, Amelia started as President of NASPA, a national membership association for student affairs professionals. Prior to being named President, Amelia was Vice President for Research and Policy at NASPA and led many of the Association's scholarly and advocacy-focused activities. She has fostered genuine engagements with college administrators, researchers, grant makers, and other higher education professionals. As a frequent keynote speaker at national and regional conferences, Amelia presents on topics related to higher education, student affairs, college affordability, student learning outcomes, and institutions' use of data and analytics. She has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, the Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed, and PBS Newshour.Amelia recently completed four years of service on the Board of Directors for EDUCAUSE, where she was Chair of the Finance & Investment Committee and the Audit Committee. Vice President For Research And Policy
As a member of NASPA's Executive Leadership Team, I direct the Association's Research and Policy Team, and we deliver publications, live briefings, and professional development opportunities regarding issues that are central to the work of student affairs professionals. Products include NASPA-branded publications such as the Leadership Exchange Magazine, Policy and Practice brief series, Census of Vice Presidents of Student Affairs, and three peer-reviewed journals.I have managed over $20 million in grant-funded research to explore higher education topics and I provide leadership for the Association's timely analysis of federal and state legislation and regulatory developments. I also engage with several groups of NASPA volunteer members, including the Public Policy Division, Faculty Council, and Assessment, Evaluation, and Research Knowledge Community.

Director Of Research Initiatives
In this role, I managed the Association's development of a Statement of Aspirational Practice for Institutional Research, an 18-month project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The action-oriented publication focused on program evaluation and improvement strategies and serves as the foundation of a future-oriented vision of institutional research. The project involved managing a group of subject matter experts and facilitating the pilot testing of the publication by 10 higher education institutions.I supported the Association's online educational activities, which included managing webinars on various data-related topics and providing content updates for the Data and Decisions Academy, a set of six courses for early-career institutional researchers. I also led the Association's creation of a matching travel grant program for regional institutional research associations and the development and delivery of the Association's monthly electronic newsletter.
Director Of National Survey Research
I managed the Association's involvement in a two-year research project sponsored by the National Association of System Heads with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to examine the relationship between system and campus institutional research offices. Part one of the project included two national surveys of institutional research offices to gather information regarding the collection, storage, exchange, and reporting of data across systems and campuses. Part two of the project involved interviews with campus and system office directors of institutional research.
