About Amelie F. Constant, Ph.D.

I am an applied labor economist with a long-standing research agenda. I apply principles of labor, perspectives and frameworks while I employ econometric techniques to carefully derive conclusions from sound data. I choose topics of societal and policy relevance to improve the conditions of minorities, contribute to knowledge, be useful to policymakers and the public. My research has applications in entrepreneurship; social inclusion; health and aging; youth education; the immigrant impact on the happiness of natives; and the ethnic identity and its role in economic outcomes. I have published 70 refereed articles and several books. I have an established record in conducting policy through my research, policy briefs, Op-Eds. As a professor I have been teaching for 15 years in different universities - economics and public policy departments - to diverse student bodies; I have been mentoring students. I have over 10 years of experience in leading and supervisory positions in nonprofit thinktanks. As the Director of Migration, a program area I spearheaded in 2004, I have been an effective director, setting the research agenda and remaining in the forefront. I have hired and brought together researchers from different countries and backgrounds, giving them the opportunity to be as productive as they can be while I maintained a collegial environment. I have collaborated with the directors of the other areas with diverse perspectives. I have forged international cooperation with organizations via grant writing, collaborative research, and organizing conferences. As the founding director of DIWDC, I started from zero, handled multiple responsibilities simultaneously, was strategic in a competitive environment, and produced knowledge and innovation. I created a collaborative environment, setting goals for the team that we achieved within the first year.I am open to new opportunities and challenges.

A serious part of my job is to advertise for the journal reaching out to different outlets as well as actively looking for new topics and methods of research in migration, identifying researchers and asking them for their contributions to the IZAJoM.
