As a drug discovery scientist in the Molecular Pathology team at Eli Lilly and Company (with CK Group), my research involved developing and optimizing biochemical and cellular assays to study the molecular pathways involved in neurodegenerative disease, and conducting early-stage research for target validation.

Thesis title: A Genetic and Functional Investigation of Inherited Neuropathies: Charcot-Marie Tooth Disease and Brown-Vialetto-Van Laere Syndrome. Supervisor: Prof Henry Houlden.My research involved searching for novel genetic causes and elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration in Brown-Vialetto-Van Laere syndrome, an infantile-onset motor neuron disease due to mutations in a riboflavin transporter. During my PhD, I developed skills in sequencing (Sanger and whole-exome), genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, as well as a wide range of molecular and cellular biology techniques.My PhD involved international collaborations, publications, interactions with clinicians and patient support groups, and presentations to a wide range of audiences.
