About Amelious N. Whyte, Jr., Ph.D.

I am an experienced and committed higher education administrator who has served the University of Minnesota in various ways . I am a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, which I infuse in my professional and volunteer responsibilities in various ways. My varied career includes community outreach and engagement, serving as a senior leader in student affairs administrations, working directly for various senior student affairs officers to provide high level support and project management, engaging individually with students, and working in University governance. I am currently the Chief Community Engagement Officer for the College of Liberal Arts. In this role I am responsible for providing coordination for a variety of efforts intended to enhance the College's connection with the community, including the corporate sector. I have overseen various functions and units within the Office for Student Affairs, including Greek Life, Student Conduct, Student Parent Support, Sexual Violence Prevention & Support, Student Legal Services, Student Government Advising, Student & Community Relations, and Student Conflict Resolution, Assessment, Crisis Management and International Initiatives. I have served on and/or provided leadership to numerous task forces and committees, including strategic planning, diversity, safety, and hiring of senior administrators. I have experience teaching students in the areas of leadership development, and have mentored scores of students formally and informally during my career. I have tremendous expertise on a variety of issues, including strategic planning, sexual violence prevention, alcohol education and abuse prevention, Greek Life, student fees, student parents, and many others. I desire to be a positive influence on the lives of others, especially students and the broader community. I relish that I am able to use my Strengths (Responsibility, Belief, Relator, Communication, Empathy) on a daily basis as I do my work.
