I lead the Policy, Auditing, Communications, E-Procurement, and Data Analytics team to enhance process efficiency, improve internal and external stakeholder experiences, and deliver outstanding value for all goods and services purchased by the City of Detroit.My team designs and implements process improvements, including through the use of automation where appropriate. Highlights from the 2022 calendar year include: a new requisitioning system that is integrated with the Citywide Oracle enterprise resource planning system, which decreased the median approval time for requisitions by 50%; a new system for requesting purchase order closures and processing those requests, which reduced a multi-week process to a median of 8 days; and a simplification of the City's commodity codes, which consolidated 7,000 codes into under 300 and helped City vendors get notified of relevant opportunities with much greater fidelity.My team also handles all procurement data reporting, including visualizations and dashboards built specifically for department leaders, the Mayor, and City Council. Similarly, my team coordinates all OCP audits and regulatory compliance reporting to ensure that the City is managing funding effectively and selecting vendors appropriately. More broadly, my team is responsible for maintaining the Office's Standard Operating Procedures and keeping them in alignment with the City's Code of Ordinances.We also facilitate internal and external Oracle support. For external vendors, my team provides written and video guides for common processes, offers 10 live support sessions per week, and staffs phone and email assistance hotlines. I lead DPSCD's Division of Partnerships, which coordinates all non-contracted support coming into the district: programming run by community partners, competitive grant funding, donations, etc. I work closely with internal and external stakeholders across the city, state, and country to maximize the resources available to DPSCD students.Much of my first year with DPSCD focused on streamlining the partnership intake, evaluation, and renewal process. Redesigning processes to optimize workflow and incorporate automation where appropriate, my team reduced routine processing times for roughly 200 partners from multiple months to a matter of weeks or even days. We concurrently built and launched a public-facing Community Partner Map to democratize access to information about district partnerships. This standard-setting resource within the public education space was recognized for its innovative approach and design at the 2022 Esri User Conference.My team has consistently increased its mission, vision, and capacity since I joined DPSCD. We now administer districtwide systems for tracking and support competitive grant applications and donated funds. Over the first year of our work in the competitive grant space, we supported more than $5 million in applications. Our success prompted me to launch and chair a funding equity project to delve into our grant and donation data and ensure that resources are distributed fairly based on school and community needs.My team is also active in the district’s Whole Family Strategy, which focused on providing our students and their families with wraparound resources (e.g., food, personal hygiene products, winter clothing) and services (e.g., medical care, mental health support, legal assistance for immigration and housing issues). My team has been active in the development and launch of both the Family Resource Distribution Center and the Family Resource Gateway.

I planned and coordinated voter outreach efforts that contacted roughly 3,000 voters per week. I created, empowered, and mobilized a diverse network of volunteers and community organizations to drive record-setting voter turnout across the county. My statehouse candidates were elected in part because they won every precinct for which I was the lead organizer.

I taught interdisciplinary classes focused on English and science at a diverse Title I school. I forged strong partnerships with many organizations, from the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum to EcoRise, to support my students' learning. I used a blend of traditional, small-group, and guided reading instruction to help my students average 2.2 years of annual literacy growth (per Scholastic Reading Inventory). I built strong ties with students, families, and the community through home visits and promoted equity and inclusivity through culturally relevant pedagogy in the classroom and extensive extracurricular engagement (from running an enrichment opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to coordinating many aspects of the school's production of The Lion King).

Teaching all grades of middle school math, I fostered 1.9 years of average annual growth from 2016 to 2018 (per the i-Ready diagnostic assessment). During the 2017-2018 academic year, I co-led the middle school faculty team and designed and implemented a project-based algebra course for advanced 8th graders. My work on this course was recognized with the inaugural, nationwide McGraw-Hill “Lights, Camera, ALEKS” prize. Additionally, I rewrote DCPS' middle school math assessments during the summer of 2017 and facilitated subsequent district-wide professional development sessions about assessment for around 50 secondary educators.

I designed and taught beginning and intermediate bridge courses for classes of up to 24 learners. Over the course of nine consecutive terms, I earned a perfect 5.0 average on course evaluations.

I created an after-school bridge program and managed the logistics for its inaugural year. This included working with teachers and schools to create new extracurricular activities, designing a coherent curriculum, and training a corps of ~20 volunteer teachers. Since its inception, the program has grown to include around a dozen schools in the D.C. metropolitan area.

I oversaw the turnaround of a $200M university-building project in Vietnam to prevent its cancellation and get it back on track. I subsequently coordinated and supervised multiple components of that project and a separate, $100M K-12 curriculum redesign project in the same country. In addition, I conducted the impact evaluation for an $80M primary education pilot program in Vietnam using R to analyze large data sets. Throughout my time at the World Bank, I was tasked with assessing the viability of education initiatives in Vietnam and occasionally Indonesia. I wrote numerous briefings and policy proposals for government officials in both countries, met all review objectives, and maintained full funding for every project throughout my tenure.

I designed and taught an English curriculum emphasizing speaking, listening, critical thinking, and intercultural understanding for grades seven to nine. I taught classes, organized English-related extracurricular activities, and coordinated end-of-term exams for ~640 students per semester. Additionally, I facilitated weekly professional development sessions for the seven-teacher English department. I also volunteered as an English teacher and mentor for North Korean defectors and studied the similarities and differences between the Korean and American education systems.

I helped the Foundation's Board of Directors to set organizational strategy and coordinate fundraising efforts that provided the choir with most of its financial support (roughly $100,000 per year).
