I have been an attorney for more than 10 years, the majority of which have involved providing advice and counsel on technology and data issues. Today I advise and counsel my business clients on U.S. and international privacy and data protection laws and regulations (e.g., FTC Act, GLBA, HIPAA, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), etc.), and how they apply in a given business situation (e.g., analytics and new product and service development). I also assist and advise on the development of policies, processes and procedures; implementing appropriate mechanisms to enable the cross-border transfers of data (from the European Union (EU) and other countries); and designing compliant marketing programs (CAN-SPAM, TCPA, CASL, ePrivacy Directive, interest based advertising, etc.). I also provide advice on information security/cybersecurity issues. I currently hold the CIPP/US, CIPP/E and CIPT certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). In 2016 I received the IAPP Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) designation. A notable achievement includes preparing, submitting, and successfully prosecuting an application for Binding Corporate Rules with German data protection authorities on behalf of a multi-national client. My M.B.A. (concentration in finance) from the University of Iowa allows me to better understand and connect with my business clients, and I enjoy working closely with them to find solutions to meet business objectives.
