My career commenced in 1982 with an IET approved electronic/mechanical apprenticeship across 3 front end technology sites, namely UKAEA Harwell, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and Culham Laboratory. In order to open up my career options, I went on to study Electronic Engineering at the University of Sussex, graduating with BEng (Hons), subsequently qualifying to be a Chartered Engineer.I have been extremely lucky to be involved in a diverse range of engineering products from concept through to volume production, both as a development engineer and as a technical project manager. Some of the projects I’ve been involved in are:• Designing data acquisition systems for CERN/ESRF particle accelerators and for DITE/JET fusion• Telemetry downlink design and control for small satellites• Direct sequence spread spectrum fixed wireless CDMA telecommunication systems• Deployment of next generation highways & telecoms fibre optics networks• Safety critical industry platform flammable/toxic gas detectors• Safety critical triple redundancy subsea oil safety monitoring devices• Safety critical aviation software• Nuclear radiation monitoring systems• Mass digital storage cloud products• LV power optimisation and smart energy efficiency• Wheel slip/slide protection for rail locomotives• Railway crossing controls• Digitisation of legacy platforms I bring to the table my passion to mentor the younger generation and my eagerness to collaborate with other creative, ambitious, inspiring people!
