As a Victim Assistance Specialist, I assisted crime victims in Washington County through the court system. I primarily worked with victims of domestic violence. I used crisis intervention and communication techniques all day long. Providing information to clients in crisis requires a calm demeanor and a direct communication style. I have worked with people who are suicidal, in a severe mental health emergency, and those in a medical or criminal emergency. While working at the Washington County District Attorney's Office, I was on the Justice League; I was co-secretary of the Domestic Violence Intervention Council; and I was the board of directors secretary for the Domestic Violence Resource Center. I also taught at the State Victim Assistance Academy for my last two years at the District Attorney's Office on Communication and Crisis Intervention.
