About Amie Patel
My journey towards the field of medicine began in high school, as part of the Academy for Medical Science Technology, where my classes centered around healthcare and medicine. This was my first introduction to medicine in its reality, from which my love and passion for the medical field began to soar.As an undergraduate at the University of Rochester, I focused on obtaining a holistic education in the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. I declared my Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, as I have a deep and immense love for the natural sciences and medicine. Later, I studied abroad in Spain, as part of a full immersion program, and my eyes were opened to the importance of connecting to cultures different than one's own. I went on to declare my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, with the hopes of being able to understand and connect to Spanish and Latin culture, looking to carry that over into my interactions with my patients as an aspiring physician. I believe that the ability to transgress cultural boundaries allows for physicians to develop a deeper and more meaningful connection with their patients and foster an inclusive and inviting environment in the field of medicine. As I shadowed under various medical specialities, I came to realize that along with the practice of medicine, the fields of business and law were incorporated into the day to day lives of every physician. Whether it be running their own practice, understanding the business policies of a hospital, or gaining insight into healthcare insurance reform and law, the fields of business and law were present everywhere I turned. My curiosity to understand the interconnected nature of business and law with healthcare led me towards pursuing my Masters of Science in Law, at Northwestern's Pritzker School of Law in the Fall of 2019. My studies will focus on the business and law of science, technology, and healthcare which I hope to incorporate into my practice as an aspiring physician.
