I have been working as a clinical neuropsychologist for 15 years, mainly with people who live with dementia. I have worked on different specialized settings (day care center, home and community intervention, private practice) and have significant experience on the differential diagnosis of dementia and on the planning and implementation of biopsychosocial interventions that aim to improve the quality of life of people with dementia and their caregivers. My main concerns are the promotion of well-being and dignity and the maximization of cognitive and daily functioning for people with disability. I address those through relevant and tailored interventions adapted to the needs, interests and abilities of the person, always respecting their will, identity and life story. More recently, I have coordinated the development of a Portuguese webapp focused on practical strategies for home caring of people with dementia, written in a clear and accessible manner.I am also a writer with two published books and a strong believer in the power of writing and storytelling to prompt emotion, thought and action, and thus empower individuals, transform organizations and, ultimately, improve society.
