Sa Pathology (Royal Adelaide Hospital)

My role involves identifying novel DNA repair genes that may contribute to the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndrome and therapy-related myeloid neoplasm by gene expression profiling, multi-colour flow cytometric analysis, tissue culture and clonal assays and next-generation sequencing.

During my time in UofA, I characterised a cell-line model of Diamond-Blackfan Anaemia by applying molecular biology (RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, gel electrophoresis, qPCR, and immunobiology (flow cytometry) techniques in the Acute Myeloid Leukaemia Group headed by Prof Richard D'Andrea.

As one of the pioneer members in the group, I helped developed a biodegradable tracheal stent for children and performed critical experiments for the study. I managed animal (rabbit) studies and process tissue samples for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and immunohistochemistry (IHC).
