Researcher At Center For Transportation StudiesUniversity Of Virginia Aug 2013 - May 2015Charlottesville, Va, UsInvestigated long term behavior of fiber reinforced polymers (FRPs) in order to develop a new class of precast prestressed concrete panels with FRP bars for sustainable and durable structures. For this purpose, I collaborated with a research team at Morgan State University as well as a Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) researcher to study the behavior of FRP bars in concrete under different environmental exposures for extended periods of time. Under the supervision of Dr. Devin Harris, I served as the lead experimentalist at UVA responsible of managing and performing tasks of design, fabrication, and testing of specimens. Moreover, I was an active member of the Mobile Laboratory for Rapid Evaluation of Transportation Infrastructure, operating various diagnostic systems such as the Digital Image Correlation and Bridge Diagnostics, Inc systems. -
ResearcherVirginia Tech Jun 2012 - Aug 2012Blacksburg, Va, UsStudied the site response and soil amplification factors in Washington, D.C, Charleston, SC, and Columbia, SC. Worked on processing data and comparing results to the specified International Building Code amplification factors. Research's critical findings showed that the unique geological conditions in central and eastern US amplify sites differently than the building codes expect, which are based on empirical data mainly developed in tectonically active areas such as the west coast. Research findings were presented at “Posters on Hill” to members of the Congress and congressional staff.
