Currently I'm carrying out research work meant to control the sucking pests of cotton such as Whitefly and Psyllid at molecular level in an environment friendly way by using modern day molecular biology techniques including RNAi. RNA interference (RNAi): a homology dependent expression down regulation mechanism has been proven as an effective tool for functional genomics studies over the past decades. The technology has got the potential to reduce the losses caused by Whitefly transmitted begomoviruses and Psyllid transmitted pathogens. We've got very encouraging results while carrying out in vitro RNAi experiments. The real time qPCR (TaqMan chemistry) results demonstrated promising mRNA expression down regulation. We've also expressed dsRNA against important gene targets from Whitefly both transiently and stably in model plant system (N. tabacum). Currently, we are analyzing/testing "---" plants for engineered resistance. The technology demonstrated significant level of resistance against Whitefly, also proven by our real time qPCR results. I also have some experience with Linux working environment as well as Python and R programming besides using online available bioinformatics tools and platforms including Galaxy. Keeping in view my future long term goals I've also earned a number of certificates offered by different leading Universities of the world via Coursera, related to computational and systems biology. Since the science of molecular biology is shifting more or less towards dry lab which necessitates to keep myself updated with current tools being used for such studies.Cheers
